The international Spectrocat summer school organized by the Laboratoire Catalyse et Spectrochimie of Caen, France (LCS - ENSICAEN) will take place between the 19th and 23rd July 2010.
This school aims at reviewing the state-of-the-art in the field of vibrational spectroscopy applied to catalysis, which is a topic for which the LCS has developed an international reputation.
This school takes place every 3 years and the 2007 edition was very successful.
The 75 participants (students and lecturers) to the 2007 edition were from academic (PhD students, experienced researchers...) or industrial backgrounds (staff at TOTAL, IFP, Shell, BASF ... ) and originated from 15 different countries (EU, USA, South Africa ...). The school was deemed extremely useful for the participants, because it allowed for informal exchanges during lectures and practical sessions that took places in the research facilities of the LCS.
Why participating to Spectrocat?
The state-of-the-art in vibrational spectroscopy applied to the characterization of catalytic systems will be presented in a didactic manner by experts in the relevant topics.
The bases of vibrational spectroscopies will be first recalled, before looking into the details of experimental techniques and latest development in in situ and operando methods used to determine catalysts surface properties and unravel the related reaction mechanisms.
In addition to lectures, practical sessions will be carried out on the state-of-the-art equipment of the LCS with the support of experts from the LCS or invited leturers.
Several poster sessions are planned to foster informal exchange and discussions between students and teachers.
The LCS campus is ideally located on the north-side of the city, easily connected by bus or tramway, and about 15 min by cars from the Normandy beaches.
